To friends far and near:

August 27, 2009 - Leave a Response

The legal turmoil of the past three years has apparently come to an end (at least we think so), although some repercussions may still be lurking about.

We wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude to all, and each, of you, for your various words of kindness, gestures of support and inquiries of concern. From Unewsers and Post-Dispatchers, friends and family, alumni and colleagues …  from petition to picnic, your words have granted us solace, and your presence, hope.

The sole benefit of all of this folderol has been the constant reminder of how many stalwart friends (e.g.: Jenny Crithclow, Amy George-Rush, Coleen Jaycox and Patrick Powers, the four pillars of this community) we have, who were willing to take a stand for the U. News and for us.

Thank you,

Avis and Anna Marie

Picnic Fundraiser Information

May 14, 2009 - One Response

FIRST:
THANK YOU — to everyone who attended (and everyone who wanted to, but could not attend) the May 3, fundraiser trivia bowl.
And THANK YOUespecially, for your good wishes and generosity.

SECOND:
The second, and last, fundraiser is now firmly scheduled.

PICNIC FUNDRAISER INFORMATION

Who:
Friends of Avis Meyer who wished to, but could not, attend the trivia bowl.

What:
A self-catered picnic in Tower Grove Park (one dish per person/couple should be sufficient).

When:
Sunday afternoon, July 26, 2009 (1 p.m. to 6 p.m.)

Where:
Tower Grove Park, at The Old Playground Pavilion — visible and easily accessible from the Magnolia and Grand corner of the park. Scads of parking is available, and a tidy playground is mere steps away. (The pavilion is covered— so we’ll congregate, weather or not.)

Why:
To help Avis and Anna Marie pay their legal bills … and to join them in celebrating their anniversary. (The number will be revealed only on site.)

N.B. If you plan to attend, please sign up by adding a comment to this Web site or e-mailing Chelsea Meyer Deiter at chelseadeiters@yahoo.com. Please mention what you will bring (so that we don’t have 17 salads and no Fritos). Anna Marie will provide succulent lemon bars and chocolate-chip cookies, and Avis will bring his 1949 Buick Roadmaster — unless it rains.

If you cannot attend but would like to contribute to the cause (UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE SO — we cannot overemphasize this), please make contributions to:

Doors open at 6 p.m.

Why:
To help our friend pay legal expenses

Where:
Richmond Heights Community Center
8001 Dale Ave.
Richmond Heights, MO 63117
Map and Directions

What:
Movie Trivia Night
Avis has created 100 questions, 10 each for 10 movie genres, to challenge even the most avid moviegoers. Joe Holleman, columnist and movie critic of the Post-Dispatch will host the event, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Awards:
Avis is donating books about movies. The first-place table’s winners will choose their books first; then the second-place table; then the third. In addition, three lucky players will receive a $50 gift certificate to Pietro’s, Spiro’s or Dressel’s.

Cost:
The minimum cost per ticket is $25**. Anything beyond that would be welcomed, but not expected — especially if you’re in education or journalism. The room seats 280 well-wishers. Cash and checks will be accepted at the door.

BYOE:
Please bring your own snacks and soft drinks. Alcohol is not permitted at this event. Baked goods, some created by Anna Marie, herself, will be available for purchase.

RSVP:
Please RSVP by May 1 by adding your name and number attending to the responses on this site. The “Responses” link can be found at the top of the page under the “Movie Trivia Night” header.

If you would like to RSVP privately, please e-mail Chelsea Meyer Deiter at chelseadeiters@yahoo.com to let us know that you’re coming.

We have a total of 30 tables of eight and four tables of 10; to avoid disappointing anyone, please let us know in your response on this website if you are reserving a table of 8 or 10 or just planning to attend.

Note:
If you cannot attend the Movie Trivia Night but would like to donate to Avis’ defense fund, you may send checks** made  payable to Anna Marie Meyer, to:
     10828 Woodforest Drive
     St. Louis, MO 63128

Note (another):
If you cannot attend the trivia bowl, some alumni are planning a second event — a picnic in an area park, tentatively scheduled for May 24, a Sunday afternoon. This website will carry details, as they become available; and no one but Avis and Anna Marie should appear at both events.

**This is not a tax-deductible donation.
